fear and loathing thinking about the airport

it's a rainy monday night in seattle and i've just finished packing for my journey to china to meet up with heather and the bunch. i'm trying to think about all the productive things i could do on the airplane, like work on a piece of music that i need to have done by the end of the month, but we all know that even though there are 15 glorious hours with me and a couple hundred of my closest friends somewhere over the pacific there is just no way i will be able to pull out some staff paper and get anything done. probably mainly thumbing through a shanghai travel guide and watching bad movies while taking advantage of all the free services that come along with a trans-pacific journey.

but i digress...everyone was fabulous on friday at benaroya! i'm really looking forward to doing it all again at least once in china, plus the added bonus of getting to conduct this fabulous piece by another contemporary composer by the name of zarvos. it's got all the bells and whistles of many other compositions by brazilian composers of the last 100 years, with some serious new energy. it's quite beautiful and invigorating.

well, i really must have a rest before my flight...more from china...
